The light smell of pine gum in the air, what a great feeling to feel this after spending over one decade of time of my life camping and living in tents, cooking with the campfire at months at a time. This decade consist of over 40 years of being directly involved in harvesting, cleaning, getiing full of dirt, dust, pine gum, dripping sweat in the hot sun, breathing and tasting dust and pine gum, climbing the ladder to gather the cones, hitting the cones to extract the nut, and into the clean process, making them look beautiful for all consumers to enjoy over the last four decades.

I have spent one of those decades directly in the wild doing what I just stated, it has been a lot of tough work, but at the same time, enjoyable and pleasant to be envolved in. One of the best ways to gather your pine cones is the white mans way. We began by using 2x4 wood personally-built ladders in the 1950s. They were very heavy, very unpratical, however it was the beginning of our family business. Today we use, aluminum ladders, and it is what you might use if you plan to harvest your very own pine nuts. Climb the ladder with an orange / apple picking bag to gather your cones as in all natural forest and in BLM lands you are permitted to gather 25 pounds per person, without a permit, for your personal use. Gathering the cone directly from the tree is the most efficient way we know to gather pine nuts and the most sanitary way also, as once they hit the ground they are exposed to many wild animals in the forest that are not sanitized. By this we recommend all who gather there own pine nuts to gather them directly from the tree and not from the ground.
